President Karzai is volgens Van Middelkoop "vol lof" over het optreden van de Nederlanders in "zijn" land. Dat dankt je de koekoek. In de reportage van Jon Lee Anderson in "The New Yorker" waarnaar ik gisteren verwees, kan men het volgende lezen:
"One of the senior members of the A.E.F. (Afghan Eradication Force) told me that it appeared that the fields in the target area belonged primarily to the Alkozai tribe, leaving those of the Populzai—Karzai’s tribe—relatively untouched. “So the Dutch, wittingly or unwittingly, appear to be favoring the Populzai,” he said.""
