Dit is een mooi artikel: Condoleeza Rice Names the System van Ron Jacobs. Het is natuurlijk van het grootste belang dat men "het systeem", d.w.z. het imperialistische, hegemonische Amerika van George W. Bush, kan benoemen. Condoleeza Rice deed dat in een lezing die zij voor de Economische Club in New York gaf op 6 juni jl. Een tweetal citaten uit de bespreking van die lezing door Ron Jacobs: Rice "... stated that the Bush foreign policy is not a break with previous administrations, but a continuation of what she called "100 years of American realism." ... “Dr. Rice places the Democrats' opposition to the Bush strategy squarely in its place. Her speech made it clear that there are not two foreign policies at work in the upper echelons of the Washington-Pentagon-Wall Street axis, only a few differences in the methods used to achieve the goals of a single policy. That policy is the policy that best serves the corporate capitalist need to expand and dominate." "American realism", dat is de slogan. In dienst van "corporate capitalism". Men mag er gerust aan toevoegen "American corporate capitalism". Hoe dan ook, interessant. Ook hier weer niet "realisme" in het algemeen, maar "American realism" waar de lakeistaten, o.a. Nederland, bij mogen aansluiten, zolang het het Amerikaanse realisme uitkomt.
Ik lees trouwens met veel plezier de grote studie van Roger Morris over de geschiedenis van de CIA en de opkomst van Robert Gates daarin. Zeer illustratief. Ik vond het op de webpagina met "resources" voor het begrip van het werk van John le Carré.
